Short Author Bio - What’s Your Story?

How important is an author’s bio? For one thing, it directly impacts sales. An author’s reputation is one of the main factors that influences book buying. You have to assume that most of the people thinking about buying your book will not know who you are. They are looking for a reason to spend or not spend money on your book. A good bio helps them decide.

Write in the third person.
Establish your credibility and be honest. If you are lacking on credentials or exciting things, you can always put in your passions and interests.
Mention other materials you’ve written. If you have a website or anything else that helps promote your brand then you should make sure you include it at the bottom of your bio.
Name drop. If you’ve worked for or with well-known people, name dropping is not seen as bad; it’s seen as an effective signal to the reader of your importance and ability.
Keep it short and interesting, without leaving anything important out — keep your bio under 250 words. If your bio is too long, or too full of overstated accomplishments and awards, it will turn your readers off and actually make you look less credible.
It’s a good idea to tweak your author bio for each new book you release. You grow and change as a writer, so should your bio.
Readers will judge you, and your book, based on your author photo. Because of social media, an author photo connects you with your audience now more than ever. Your author photo tells an audience about the tone, style and genre of your writing, as well as your persona. It is a representation of your work. Your author photo needs to be a high resolution, clear image with a clean background, and friendly facial expression—smile for your reader.
